If you are like me, you have found yourself watching an infomercial at one time or another. These works of advertising genius will have you “Saying Goodbye to Acne” or doing its best to convince you that you cannot live without the “Shark Vacuum.” My personal favorites are aimed at losing weight, or getting in shape. “Eat and Lose Weight” “Lose 30 lbs. in 6 Weeks” “Wesley Snipes Uses the Total Gym” just to name a few. Whether you are captivated by the latest kitchen gadget, or Tony Horton’s ability to get rock hard abs in 10 minutes, there is one reason that consumer’s buy into these advertisements. They promise results with little effort, time, and/or investment.
If you have read or watched The Secret, this has similar claims. I am a firm believer in the Law of Attraction, and the Power of Positive Thinking, but I also believe there has to be some type of action on your part to actually get what you want. In The Secret there is a scene where a gentleman is wallowing in his sorrows about getting bills in the mail every day. So his answer is to visualize getting checks in the mail instead of bills. VOILA it works! Checks just start pouring in. I’d like to think that if you started to focus on getting checks in the mail it would motivate you to make it happen. That’s the part The Secret omitted; probably because it would have sold less books and DVD’s.
All of us have things that we want. Some seem out of reach, and some do not. All of them are achievable, but you have to take action! I was talking about what I want with a business associate of mine a couple days ago, and I said, “I’ve been planning to buy a rental property for a long time but…” He interrupted me and said, “Stop planning and get out there!” He is right. It’s time to get out there and start creating the reality that I want my life to be.
Here's to taking action!
